Babyndex tracks your most fertile days from saliva crystallisation

For most women fern-shaped crystals appear a few days before ovulation and disappear right after it. This, however, does not work for everyone because anything that affects estrogen levels in the body may affect the results. These may include age, medications, infections, breastfeeding and pregnancy.

If saliva ovulation test works for you, you can track your most fertile days and Babyndex helps recognize the fertile saliva ferning patterns and store the results.

When are the most fertile days?

Your body communicates with you through crystals. While this may sound abstract, it is completely precise: when your body goes through different stages of your ovulation cycle, the changes in hormones cause that saliva starts to crystalize in different ways. Since the shapes of the crystals resemble the shape of the fern the whole procedure is called Saliva Fern Test.

The ovulation microscope predicts ovulation in 2 to 3 days. These are the most fertile days of your cycle. The estrogen hormone prepares your body for ovulation, and when the estrogen level rises, saliva salt levels also increase. If you smear saliva on the lens and air dry it - it takes about 10 minutes - you can see these salt crystals in the ovulation microscope.

The viability of sperm cells is up to 5 days, while that of an ovum is 1 day after follicular rupture. Thus, the duration of fertility is up to 6 days per cycle. Ovulation prediction is possible 2-3 days earlier from changes in the cervix, cervix mucus, and saliva. From urine and body temperature, it is only possible 1 day in advance. It is therefore advisable to supplement or replace these tests with this reusable method for monitoring ovulation.

During the fertile period of the cycle, increased estrogen level increases the concentration of salts, causing a change in the composition of saliva and cervical secretions. Thus, crystals appear in the dry sample due to elevated salt levels.

An increase in estrogen hormone concentration prepares the body for follicular rupture and when it peaks, it triggers an outflow of luteinizing hormone, and then estrogen begins to decrease. High concentrations of luteinizing hormone trigger follicular rupture after 1-1.5 days. The ovum is then viable for 1 day. Furthermore, after follicular rupture, the concentration of the hormone progesterone increases, during which crystallization no longer occurs. The result of this process is that the crystallization of saliva and cervical secretions roughly coincides with the duration of fertility. At this point, the crystallization shows a characteristic image reminiscent of fern leaves. In the non-fertile period, even if there is crystallization, the image shows amorphous shapes.
